Is Solar for you?
Many people are sceptical when installing solar onto their home or business. There are a lot of external factors that affect a good quality install, these are not always mentioned by the people who sell these solar systems as they are not installers themselves.
These factors can be shading: –
- Shading e.g. trees and other buildings
- Panel direction and tilt. As a general rule the closest to north is the best, but depending on your consumption in may be better to direct your panels so they are producing electricity when you are. This can be different on a case to case basis.
- Inverter location. Inverters that are in constant sun and no shade tend to have a lower life expectancy so we try to place them on the southern side when installing, inside the building or under a shade cover.
- Soiling, e.g. bird dropping, dust, dirt. Every location has unique features so be sure to take that into account.
But we can walk you through all the steps necessary to make you feel comfortable and understand what you are getting, warranty and life expectancy of your system.
SOLAR EQUIPMENT
With so many brands out there its hard to know what you are getting. We use quality solar panel brands like Trina, QCell, REC and LG jut to name a few. Inverter brands we recommend are ABB, SMA, Fronius, SolarEdge and Enphase. But always strive to buy local as when things do go wrong you want to speak to a local who can ge the job
- Solar panels come with a standard 10 year warranty but some other brands also come with 12, 15, and 25 year warranties so make sure to ask about your options
- Inverter should come with 10 years warranties but be sure to ask as some other models tend to be only 5 years. It is always best to spend the little extra money to make sure it covers the whole system for 10 years.
- Monitoring options are tending to be more popular so you can keep an eye on the health of your solar system from anywhere in the world and see where all your energy usage is coming from. We recommend using the SolarEdge and Enphase brands and the aftermarket Solar Analytics which can even be installed without having solar installed.
